Mort Garson’s Mother Earth’s Plantasia, for ensemble
DESCRIPTION
In the wake of the Californian hippie movement, in 1976 Mort Garson - American arranger and composer of popular music, a favourite of beatmakers such as J Dilla - recorded quite an interesting album which soon became a sort of Internet cult: Mother Earth's Plantasia. This rather fascinating gentleman decided to create music for "the growth of plants": on the original art cover sits a naive sketch of two stylized characters who happily smile around what looks like a kind of vine inside a vase. Indeed, The whole thing does remind of herbicide packaging… Anyway, the ten songs that make the album sport amusing titles such as "Rhapsody In Green" or "Concerto For Philodendron & Pothos", and the sort of harmonic writing and compositional conscience one would expect from Juilliard School alumnus. Mr. Garson decided to record everything with the use of the Moog and other synthesizers, being a pioneer of them at the time.
In this tenth release, Enrico Gabrielli brings this music back to an acoustic dimension, highlighting the highly refined workmanship of the ten orignal compositions.
